Episode 100: Mai FrootiToons Daybew

Play Now!

Ah, the celebratory nature of stuff that divides cleanly by ten! Time to reminisce, to look back, and to do new stuff as well, such as to make Episode 100: Mai FrootiToons Daybew.

In this episode, I play Tim Wu talking right here in Seattle about his newest book, The Attention Merchants: The Epic Scramble to Get Inside Our Heads. That talk was backed by Podington Bear doing "Jettisoned." I also play Raphae doing "Opening," close the main body of the show with someone singing "Poop in a Bucket," a song my sister sent me from a video advertising, no kidding, a product you use to, well, collect your own feces for garden fertilizer use. (I'll keep looking for the link; I've misplaced it.) I opened with KMFDM's "Attak/Reload" backing Bernie Sanders, and am now closing the show with Mistle Thrush's "It's All Like Today."

I also play snippets of the John McKenna song "20 Observations About Poo." I thought of playing the whole hilarious song, but I forgot it ran 9 minutes. By the way, John is a friend of a friend. He did this album of freaking hilarious tunes a few years ago; I played another of his songs on Episode 8, in case you're curious to hear more. If you want more than that, just leave your feedback here, and I'll contact him and get permission to play another.

I'm releasing this and all my shows under a Creative Commons 4.0 attribution, share-alike and non-commercial license.

  1. Suggest you create a smart playlist in FruityToons, Playlist is Music, limit to 100 items selected by random, live updating. You can randomize your music. "Expert mode", rate your music and make a smart playlist called "Good Tunes" with rating > 3, then change the playlist in Random from "Music" to "Good Tunes" and enjoy your music the way you want. Looks like you can also choose any playlist (not Library) and click "Shuffle all".

    1. Hey, David,

Thanks for the suggestions, but… "limit to 100 items?" And "(not Library)?"

See what they are trying to do there, making me choose?

That's not what a Magic Jukebox of Youth would do!

  2. I'm 99% sure you can still shuffle with iTunes, though perhaps not with a "magic button". Did you try an internet search? There's a "Shuffle" option in a menu.

And there are plenty of other media players which can do much more than iTunes, eg Media Monkey.

    1. Hey, Shen,

To tell the truth, other than noticing that the Magic Button had been removed, I didn't investigate much. See David M's comment above; there is some shuffle power available; but it is limited compared to what was once there.

      Former Player > Current Player.

So, as the technology "advances", we should see even more features once common available only seldom… right? That does seem to be what's happening.

Based on that, I see no reason to move to another player, since it would cost more, and since the features I was trying to get back would in the near future be lost anyway.

That's okay. I'm finding myself with less and less time to just listen to music anyway.

      Later!

      Jim

    2. I think David M's solution was not the best one, and it's entirely possible to shuffle your full library.

Other media players such as Media Monkey are free.

      Don't give up too easily.
